Research: history of horror 1981 - 2000

This period of time was also quite good for horror films because this is when some more classics were made and ideas had adapted even further giving different approaches to horror movies that people didn't expect. Also i believe that in this time they improved on the ideas given by the previous years making them very good.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984
is about a pedophile who was hunted down by the local community then burnt alive. He then came back to kill the children of the people who killed him in their dreams and as they died in their dreams they would also die in real life. for me this was a scary film as it was different to most horror films as it was done in their dreams.

HellRaiser 1987
This was a very scary movie as it was very gory and the killer as not human and already has pins in his head thus the name pinhead.  the plot is An unfaithful wife encounters the zombie of her dead lover, who's being chased by demons after he escaped from their  Hell.

Aliens 1986
A team of people go to a planet in which they encounter aliens all ready their and they have lost contact with time and others so they are stuck up there. From this came all of the alien films also they made alien vs predator which was very entertaining for me.

Child's play 1988
is a film about a boy who is given a present by his mother bu then they find out that the doll is possessed by a serial killer. this was not a great horror for me but it was good for others as they may have found it scary as it was a different idea of the doll being the killer

The woman in Black 1989
A widow dies in a house in which an estate agent tries to sell the house but as he does a series of unusual events occur. This film has recently been remade and has been told to be very scary.

The silence of the lamb 1991
This films is about a cannibal who would kills his victim then eat them. this is most probably the most popular films based around cannibalism as it is so known.

Candy man 1992
The plot of The Candy man, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster's myth.i have not seen this film but i have heard about it and heard how scared some people got by it.

Scream 1996
For me this has to be my favorite horror film. the reason why this is, is because it was one of the first horror films i ever watched therefor i was scared by this one for years also once i faced my fears and watched it the plot of the films was very good as it is not just a typically psychopath and there were stories behind it. the film was successful and went on to having four other films which i enjoyed also.

The blair which project
Three film students go missing after traveling into the woods of Maryland to make a documentary about the local Blair Witch legend leaving only their footage behind. this films was filmed completely as a POV (point of view) showing first person as if you where there which made it more intense.

Research: history of horror 1971 - 1980

for me this has to be the best time period for the bases of horror films as i feel  the horror films which i enjoy in the current time would not be here unless it was for these horror films also these are the most scariest in my opinions because they started evolving greatly and basing their stories around true events also it is when people used ghosts and demons possessing was used to great effect. This is why i believe this was the most important decade when it comes to horror films.

The Exorcist 1973
The exorcist is about a young girl who happens to get
possessed by a demon and a exorcist tries to perform
an exorcism on her. Many people found this film to be
one of the scariest movies ever invented, The film was
even banned and then re-released in 1985.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974
This films is about a group of adults
whodecide to go and visit their
granddads house but on their journey
they are stopped and then encounter a
family of cannibals and a psychopathic
killer. For me this was one of the
scariest films i watched as i watched it
when i was very young but also the
methods and detail they showed when
the killer would capture his victim was
 very scary

Jaws 1975
a gigantic great white shark begins to menace the small island community of Amity, a police chief, a marine scientist and grizzled fisherman set out to stop it. This is one of the first films where they show the viscous side of sharks making it scary as they are real.

The Omen 1976
is a film about a child who's is born at the same time of his mothers death. the child is then adopted and then named dDamien. consequently as he grows up a sequence of events that cause people to die and people have suspicious that Damien is the devils child.

                                                        Halloween 1978
A psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, escapes and stalks a bookish teenage girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets. series of murders commence as he tries to reunite himself with his sister the only one he loved and she does not recognize him.

The shining 1980

A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

Friday the 13th 1980
This was the start of the Jason films it is about a man who wheres a hockey masks slowly kills young people who are camping in the woods. for me these films are entertaining because there tend to be quite a few twists in it making it more surprising.

Research: History Horror 1950-1970

During these years is when horror started becoming more personal. the reason why i feel this way is that they started to show everyday people turning into psychopaths and i think this made it much more scarier. also Zombie films where developed even further and improved and monster films like Godzilla where made.

godzilla 1954
godzilla is a film about a huge dinosaur who was accidently created after a nucleur explosion which caused it to grow and cause cauos. many other films came after this based around its idea such as jurasic park and godzilla remakes also from this king kong was even adapted as their become a rivalry as the two beasts were so big this is shown in king kong.

pshyco 1960
pshyco is one of the first horror films where an ordinary man is shown as the killer/moster in the film. this is very good and a huge change as it show people a more normal film which actually could be try making it even more scarier than others.

Blood feast 1963
plot An Egyptian caterer kills various women in suburban Miami to use their body parts to bring to life a dormant Egyptian goddess, while an inept police detective try to track him down. this is also one of the first splatter killing movies in which a lot of gore is shown as people are getting cut into pieces. this also could be the bases of films like saw hostel the human centipede etc

Night of the living dead 1968
this film is based around a group of teenagers who go into a farmhouse and then zombies come out after them. im my opinion these films are not that very good as they are quite pedictable as they are nont that complex but people still enjoy them as they become excited as they have to escape from areas.

Research: History of horror films 1925-1945

During these couple of years is when horror films stared getting better and where some classics started getting made, for example during this time is when films started to develop in terms of killers as they started becoming more scarier as the typical killers were invented such as Zombies, Vampires and werewolf's also they created other killers such as King kong and mummies which grew to be very popular.

Dracula 1931
In 1931 is the year that dracula was mad. dracula is the origin of al vampire based movies and he is the most powerful of all. the plot of this film is that dracula is an ancient vampire and he arrives in england and takesprey on a lady named mina. Dracula got a rating of 7.6 out of ten but ever since then there has been a lot of remakes based on this.

The mummy 1932
The mummy is a film based in egypt where a pharoh is buried and is discovered and with him is a scroll which enables the dead to come back to life. from this idea other mummy type films were also created and becoming succesful. the mummy was rated 7.3/10 on IMDB

King Kong 1933
this was the start of the king kong movies and the start of where animals wear used as the killers. the plot of the film is A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal giant gorilla who takes a shine to their female blonde star. the film was rated an 8/10.

The bride of frankenstien 1935
the bride of frankenstien is a sequel to the first frankenstien the film is based on frankenstien kidnapping a women then he is helped to turn her into a monster like him.it was rated 8/10 on IMDb which is a high rating.

The wolf man 1941
is a film where a man is attacked by some sort of creature causing him to get an infection and turn into a wolf thus "wolf man". this is the bases for me where films like american werewolf, underworld and wild country came from. this also is the origin of where the werewolf saga came from.

I walked with a zombie 1943
Plot - Betsy takes Jessica to a local voodoo encampment but Mrs. Holland is there consulting with the local priests who distrust Betsy and make her take Jessica home. Later that night a zombie slave Carrefour (Darby Jones) comes to take Jessica away but he is rebuffed by Paul who confesses to Betsy that his love for Jessica has died and that he wants to take Betsy away from the island.

Black Friday 1945
this is a film based on a man is dying and his friend who is a doctor saves him by doing a brain transplant but the previous brain owner was a gangster and the side effects caused him to have a dangerous split personality.

Research: History of horror - 1900 - 1925

In this period of time was the real start of where horror films started developing properly. this is when directors started created monsters and putting more detail into them. during this time the films had not properly been done to its full effect as the films tended to be very short films.

In these years is when horror films truly started to form as this is where they started forming the psychopaths and killers, for example in 1910 is where the horror stage started as a classic was formed Frankienstein. Even though it is only 12:42 minute long film i think this is where the bases of where films came from as it was one of the first horror films which had a monster in it where people could physically see the monster.the film was made by edison studies and written by J.Searle Dawley.

The golem (1915)
The golem is a film made in 1915, it is a silent horror flim written by paul Wegner. the plot of a film is about a statue who is brought to life in the 16th century to save the Jews from the ongoing brutal persecution by the city's rulers. this is also one of the first movies to have its own record on a database and gt a rating of 6.5/10 on IMDB

Nosferatu (1922)
Nosferatu is the first ever vampire movie ever made.it was created in 1922 and was based on the novels of dracula. the movie is about a man who turns into a vampire and hes a interest in real estate agent Hutter's wife. the film was rated 8/10 on imdb

Research - Introduction to horror films

Horror is a genre in movies in which it plans out to scare the viewer and create fear. The history of horror films can be traced back to the early days of Gothic novels and stories based on monsters, vampires and devils. horror Teen horror is the same as a horror film but they are designed to make it a lttle less grusome and more suitable for people who are aged 15 or above. Many people enjoy horror films even though they scare people, most people get thrills out of being scared as it is not a usual emotion people tend to use.

First horror film made?
The first ever horror film made was only a three minute film created bya well-known French filmmaker Georges Melies. the film was called Le Manoir Du Diable which means the house of the devil in english. it was recorded in 1986 and released on christmas eve in that year.
The plot of the film - A bat flies into an ancient castle and transforms itself into Mephistopheles himself. Producing a cauldron, Mephistopheles conjures up a young girl and various supernatural creatures, one of which brandishes a crucifix in an effort to force the devil-vampire to vanish.

Popular Teen Movies

Halloween (1978) is the most popular teen horror according to IMDB's ratings giving it a 7.9/10. the film is based around a masked psychopath named michael myers after killing his family on halloween he escapes a mental hospital and aims to reunite with his little sister (the only family member he left alive). Halloween was probably the start of the fanatic around slasher horror movies. from its success it enabled other horror films to come such as freddy cruger and scream. As Halloween was such a success there has been a number of different Halloween movies come out since with the latest one being a remake of the first one coming out in 2007.

Scream (1996)

Scream is also another very popular teen horror movie which is very good as i found it very entertaining also it has a high rating on IMDB of 7.2. i found this horror more entertaining as it has a better plot to it and is good as the killer is not just a psycopath he also has a story to him and it all comes together at the end.

Preliminary Task evaluation

My Power point stopped working so i had to do it like this :)

As my group only consisted of two members, myself and Josh. i feel we worked together very well, i feel this way because we managed to meet all of our deadlines and have our worked completed to a good standard. also we worked well as we discussed each others different view points of what we thought and finally agreed creating a general idea of what our Preliminary task would look like. all the work we did before hand helped a lot in the final making of the task as we referred back to them often for help. i feel we could have got a few more clips when filming so that when we edited them together there was a better flow other than that i feel we did well together.

For filming we used and Ipad. this was convenient as it is very movable as it is a handheld device also the image that came from it was clear and easy to capture filming. also it was easy to change through each clip easily on to another one and access them on the Macs. A downfall of the ipads was that it did not focus the sound on one point and in some clips background noise was picked up and interfered with the clip.

For future films i would rather use another type of recording device preferably one with a tripod as it would keep the image still and not shaky making it look neater. also i would consider locations more as ours was not the best choice for our scenario.

We used a software on the Macs called iMovie as it is a very good software that makes editing quite easy and quick. also iMovie allows users to trim, add music, credits, sound effects and more which makes it much more better for the final movie. Using iMovie i feel made the film flow a lot better than other softwares such as windows movie maker.

I feel we did meet the criteria set for the task. I feel this way because we used a variety of camera shots and movements to help the movie look better. Also another reason is because we completed all work set at the correct time and i feel to a good standard.

From the Preliminary task i have learnt a lot of different ways in which movies are made, for example all of the different camera shot and movements also i learnt more about location planning and what the character has to look like for them to fit in with the scenario. i also learnt how to use a Mac and all of the software on it such as Garageband and iMovie. i feel all of this will help me in the future as it will make it a lot easier for me to do other tasks having this knowledge.

Prelim Task - editing the video

To edit my preliminary task i was using a software on the Mac call iMovie. on the software i used it to edit clips and bring them al together for the final movie. also it was very helpful as it enabled me to add credits and music to improve it.

I also used another software called Garageband. this helped my editing i feel as the video was quite serious and a bit dull but i added music into the background and now i feel it is more funnier and better.

Preliminary Task - Location

Here are some pictures we have took for our location planning, we chose 2 locations and in the end we chose to film in location 2 as it was brighter and more spacious for us to film in.

Location 1

Location 2

Preliminary Task - Casting

For our Preliminary task, we were looking for two characters to play in our short script, We wanted both characters to create a serious and 'mysterious' personality for both characters. The two characters which needed acting were 'The Boss' and 'The Hitman', after much debate on who to choose we asked Man Lok Lee to be the Boss and Taylor Wilson to be the Hitman as they ticked all our boxes and one with previous knowledge of acting as he chose Drama as a subject. We are pleased with the decision we have made and can now prepare to film our short movie.

Man Lok Lee - The Boss

Taylor Wilson - The Hitman
